The Academic Subject Certificate in Creative Writing prepares and encourages students to pursue a professional career in writing, editing, or English academia. The program provides students with a community of writers and creative writing activities, instruction and guidance from established writers, and support in improving their writing skills and marketing their work.
Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:
- Create works of creative writing in two or more genres
- Apply elements of creative writing such as structure, figurative language, character development, plot and conflict, point of view, tone and style
- Analyze the elements of craft as well as the effect of cultural and historical context on literary works
- Propose and employ feedback in the writing workshop
- Submit original work for publication
