Degrees & Certificates Overview

Associate Degrees

Associate in Arts (AA)

The Associate in Arts (AA) degree provides a general liberal arts foundation designed for transfer to meet baccalaureate degree requirements at a four-year institution and to fulfill personal academic goals. If you plan to transfer to another campus, including UH Mānoa, work closely with an academic counselor to select courses that seamlessly fulfill requirements for your destination major.

Associate in Science (AS)

The Associate in Science (AS) degree prepares you for seamless transfer into science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and other articulated bachelor's degree programs and/or for immediate employment in career and technical fields.

Certificate Programs

Windward Community College offers short-, medium-, and long-term certificates to prepare you for entry-level employment, upgrade your professional skills, or stack directly toward an Associate in Arts degree.

Academic Subject Certificates (ASC)

An Academic Subject Certificate (ASC) recognizes focused study within the Associate in Arts curriculum. ASCs require at least 12 credits, fit within the AA degree structure without adding extra required credits, and allow you to stack credentials as you pursue your degree. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all certificate coursework.

Certificates of Achievement (CA)

Certificates of Achievement (CA) are medium-term programs (24-51 credits) designed to provide direct technical and professional training for workforce entry or career advancement. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in all certificate courses.

Certificates of Competence (CO)

Certificates of Competence (CO) are short-term sequences of coursework (4-23 credits) providing skills and competencies for immediate employment or career advancement.  For credit-bearing certificates, students must earn a minimum GPA on 2.0. The issuance of a CO requires that the student's work has been evaluated and determined to be satisfactory.
